Second in Turkey extends Hansen’s RX Lites Cup lead

With three second fastest times in the four heat races, the Peugeot 208 Lites driver finished second at the Intermediate Classification to start on pole position for semi-final two. Hansen took the lead at the first corner and won the race to earn another six championship points and start on the front row for the final.

In the final, the Red Bull athlete slotted into second at the first corner behind Thomas Bryntesson and ahead of former British Touring Car Championship driver Tom Onslow-Cole. Hansen pushed Brytesson hard until the Peugeot Red Bull Hansen Junior Team driver took his joker on lap four. When Bryntesson took his joker on the last lap, Hansen got alongside the Norwegian but not wanting to risk losing points, was content to settle for second to the chequered flag.

“This was a good weekend. We started off really fast and then made some mistakes with the setup. But, we found the way we wanted to go and after the changes I felt really comfortable. For the semi-final and final I felt we had good pace,” said Hansen. “I was a bit lucky in the semi-final because Kevin [Eriksson] and Thomas [Bryntesson] were together in the first semi so I could drive my own race and look after the tyres so I had new for the final, which was a good plan.I didn’t get the last push from the new tyres that I wanted in the final, but we were really close to get the win. That’s racing. We’ve extended the championship lead once again so I’m really pleased.”

Hansen is now 11 points ahead of Bryntesson at the top of the championship table. “At every opportunity you want to win, but it’s really good to have the team on the radio to help me stay calm. This is 100% a team effort andI’ve really enjoyed the weekend in Turkey. We had a good run here last year, but I think the progress we’ve made from 2014 is remarkable. I feel so comfortable in the car now.”

A maximum of 30 points are available at the final round of RX Lites Cupat Franciacorta in Italy, in two weeks time, where Hansen finished on the podium last year. “We will take a normal approach into Italy and try to be as quick as possible, like usual. The gap is only 11 points, so we can’t afford to ease off. We know we need to do a really good job. We went well in Italy last year and I really hope we can challenge for the win there,” concluded the Swede.
