Kevin Hansen wins in style at Lydden Hill

2015-05-25

Hansen qualified second at the Intermediate Classification after a consistent set of heat times, made a brilliant move in the second semi-final to qualify on the front rowfor the final and seized the lead at the start of the race, as championship rival Kevin Eriksson went straight into the joker lap.

Hansen pushed hard at the front and took his joker on the final lap, coming back onto the main circuit just in front of Eriksson to win his first race of the season.“We had the pace from the beginning this weekend, but didn’t have a free track in the heats. I didn’t make the best start in the semi-final but we always push as hard as we can and took the joker early. Then, on the last lap I second going up the hill into the hairpin. I made a late braking move on [Tobias] Brink and got into the lead. It feels really good to show we can do those sort of moves,” said Red Bull athlete Hansen.

“I made areally good start in the final, it started raining just before so I was careful, but I pushed really hard. On lap three we didn’t have enough of a gap to get out in front, so I drove as hard as I could andcame out in front of Kevin when I took my joker. It feels so great to put it all together and win at Lydden. I’ve raced here four times and won three times. We knew all weekend we had the pace but you need to perform at your best in the final and that’s what we did. It’s back to zero between us in the championship points now, it’s really close and that’s exciting.”

Red Bull Peugeot Hansen Junior Team manager Graham Rodemark was delighted with the result. “It’s fantastic, it’s been a bit of a dream of Kevin’s to win here and he performed really well, as did the whole team. The pass in the semi-final was the most important move of the weekend. Kevin puts a lot of pressure on himself to win so this will set him on the right way for the rest of the season I’m sure.”
