Kevin Hansen extends RX Lites Cup lead with second in Norway

Racing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship support category, Hansen’s weekend got off to a solid start with second fastest time in heat one, but he failed to finish heat two when the rear suspension on his Peugeot 208 Lites was damaged in first corner contact. The young Swede fought back in heats three and four with two fastest times and finished second at the Intermediate Classification.

Hansen won the second-semi final to start on the front row of the final. He made a good start in the final and took the joker on the first lap. Clearly faster than the cars ahead, the Red Bull Peugeot Hansen Junior Teamdriver lost time when he caught traffic. When the jokers all played out he ended up second, just behind NorwegianThomas Bryntesson. However, with his closest championship rival Kevin Eriksson behind, Hansen elected to play things safe and didn’trisk making a move for victory. He instead settled for second and a strong points haul.

“It was an up and down weekend, we had a crash in heat two but were very strong in the later part of the weekend, with some really fast lap times and good race results. I lost loads of time in the final, at least half a second a lap. Until lap four, the win was mine, but second is good for the championship and we’ve increased the lead so that is very important. It feels really good,” said Hansen. “The car has been working really well. We had some traction problems in practice but the team has been really good and solved them quickly. Apart from that, things were perfect. We work so well together, I can’t wait to get back in the car now!”

Hansen’s next event will be the final round of the RallyX Nordic Lites Championship at Solvolla, Sweden [10 September], where he currently sits joint top in the championship standings after fighting back from problems earlier in the season. “We want to win the championship and we know we have the speed. I feel really confident and I think we can do it in Solvalla. It would be amazing to win the championship after the problems we had. After the race in Norway I feel good for the RX Lites Cup too. To win both would be incredible,” he concluded.
