Hansen maintains RX Lites Cup lead with Barcelona podium

The weekend started well for the Swedish driver with second fastest time in the first heat. Not 100% happy with the setup of the Peugeot 208 Lites, the Red Bull Peugeot Hansen Junior Team worked hard overnight after day one to improve the pace, Hansen feeling more comfortable in the car on day two and ending the Intermediate Classification fourth overall.

Second in semi-final two netted Hansen another bag of points towards his championship aspirations, before a measured drive in the final moved the Swede onto the podium, ahead of main title rival Kevin Eriksson.“We tried to keep cool this weekend. We didn’t really have the ultimate pace in the heats, we were struggling a bit on the first day and we lost our way a little bit on the setup, but I think we did a really good job overnight and managed to find quite a lot of time,” explained Hansen.“We found a good feeling again on Sunday, butitwas quite a dramatic day. We used new tyres in heat four, we wanted to try and get a bit higher up in the standings but we only lost one point to Kevin, which we got back in the final so that was fine. We were close to the fastest lap in the final so that was a good and it’s great that we made progress through the weekend. I’m really proud of the whole team.”

Hansen entered into the Barcelona event with a revised approach to race weekends, following a difficult time in the final round of the RallyX Nordic Championship the previous week in Solvalla, and it paid off. With two rounds remaining the in RX Lites Cup, Hansen remains focused on scoring points towards the championship tally. “We’ve changed how we do things a bit, back to how we’ve been before. I’m really happy with how everything felt this weekend;I’ve been really enjoying myself, in and out of the car. We’re not super focused on needing to win every single race. We just need to try and do our best every weekend and do what we can. I feel like if I’m relaxed then it is possible to go to the top again without putting so much pressure on myself.”

The next round of the RX Lites Cup takes place at Istanbul, Turkey in two weeks. “I really enjoyed the track in Turkey last season so I’m looking forward to going there and getting back in the car,” concluded Hansen.
