Arvika result puts Hansen joint top in RallyX Nordic Lites Championship chase

Hansen showed strong pace in practice on the track at which he scored his first Lites victory in 2014, but despite a great start in the first heat was slowed by a technical glitch. With the car fixed by the team for heat two, Hansen set fastest time, which he repeated in heat three.“I started from the outside in the first heat and went around the outside of everybody in the first corner, which was pretty cool. But, the car went into safety mode and I only had three cylinders for most of the race. We set fastest time in the next two heats, so we took maximum points from the Intermediate Classification. At that stage, we gained seven points over [Tobias] Brink and we were leading the championship,” said the Peugeot 208 Lites driver.

Starting from pole position for the first semi-final, the first attempt at the race was stopped on lap one. “At the restart, my tyres were warm and the car bogged down. I was third on the first lap, took my joker and was in a good position to the leaders. I came out of the joker behind [Sandra] Hultgren and passed her, but she pushed me from behind and I lost a lot of time. I think I would have won otherwise, but sometimes it’s like that,” explained the Swede.

Starting from the second row for the final, Hansen had planned to follow Thomas Bryntesson into the first corner, but when the Norwegian made a poor start, Hansen was forcedto take evasive action. “We were unlucky at the start. I ended up losing out, while Brink managed to get up into second. I wanted to take the joker on lap three but Bryntesson took his, so I went on lap four. Every time I closed somebody down, I lost time behind them, which was a bit frustrating. On the last lap I tried to get passed Brink down the hill but broke my steering. I was still able to finish fourth, which was good.”

Hansen’s fourth place finish, along with finishing top at the Intermediate Classification, means that everything’s to play for at the final round, as Hansen aims to defend his 2014 crown. “It was great to catch up all the points to the championship lead in Arvika. The best driver in Solvalla will win the championship. I’m up for the fight and really looking forward to it.”
